The Importance of Understanding

Cleavage, Imagination, and Hard-ons

A Texas school district announced it is revising its dress code to ban cleavage. The School Board President of the Arlington Independent School District said some rather odd things to support the ban. She is not the only person to give such reasons, which are a part of American mythology. It would be refreshing give such announcements with more candor.

The thing is that conservative religious people while exclaiming the glories of God, are ashamed, or afraid of the human body. Christian conservatives will claim that we must cover our bodies as a punishment from God because mythical ancestors exercised free will, another gift from God.

Plus, Americans generally are abysmally ignorant about matters involving sexuality. Medieval people were more sophisticated about humans and sex than the modern citizen.

The myths stated were two. First is that high school boys are so distracted by that glimpse of the V between two well-formed breasts that they are not being able to think of anything else. I doubt that the president did any research before she uttered such a statement.

Puberty is a distracting time for both boys and girls. Boys begin getting erections at the darnedest times. No cleavage is needed as a stimulus. The president decried that boys are spending more time looking at breasts than their school books. But, at times those speech books and science books are all that is needed to trigger a distracting engorgement. And it would be interesting to know is she did an actual field study to legitimize her claims.

And, breasts are not guaranteed to distract horny young males. Where the female chest is a common sight, there is no breakdown in learning. It is the result of the shame that some people have of the human figure that curiosity develops in order to see the forbidden.

Yap Island students of both sexes attend school topless. There is no distraction since it is the way it is. Nor does anyone suffer from a lack of imagination.

Which leads to the second myth; ‘something’ has to be left to the imagination. I’m not sure what the basis of this claim is. Men are often chastised for undressing a woman with their eyes; that is, using their imagination. This is one of those catch 22’s that is foisted on the American male. Or is it that men are just supposed to be happy with the breast they see (for the first time) the moment after marriage.*

Pottery from one of the greatest civilizations show women dressed in breast revealing clothing. There is no evidence that Minoans suffered from a lack of curiosity or from distraction. The works left for us see show much imagination and creativity.

Now if it secrets that desired, then why not go with the burka? Or at least with a very loose muumuu, the shapeless dress that all gender feminists dictate as a requirement for the female form. .

Plus, given the negative comments about United States school children, leaving the size, shape, and geography of women’s breasts to imagination has not led to excellence in math, sciences, literature, or art.

The real reason why this school has decided to attack the female body is social mores. Nothing more. Nothing less. Citizens of the area simply believe that covering the female body is good for society. Tight high necked sweaters will be ok.

There are some girls who will have trouble dressing to this code. This is not a behavior or personality defect. It is the way of their body. I suppose under this new dress code, these girls will be forced to find those blouses that are high necked and button all the way to the chin.

I’m not opposed to school districts having dress codes and deportment rules. If a school district demands all, students wear shirts or blouses buttoned to the neck that is their prerogative.

But, the school board should set a good example and give the real reasons for the rules rather than spout nonsense and ignorance.

* In the United States women are much more breast conscious than men. Women don’t get breast augmentation to please their man; they get it for dominance over other females.

School districts provide dress codes for students and generally reasonable codes are acceptable. If the code is reasonable, then real reasons will justify it. So why do school boards and administrators come up with bogus reasons?
